Passover Question
Question:
We've been invited to a Sephardi Seder for Pesach. What is the halacha for an Ashkenazi Jew - should we go, not go, or only eat according to our minhag?
Passover Answer(s)
Answer:
Excellent question. You should obviously first start off by ensuring that the Sephardi family will be keeping Kosher for Passover. If they are, you should then ask them if any of the "main" dishes being served will contain items not suitable for an Ashkenazi. According to Halacha, you should eat according to your minhag so if their main dishes are found to be inappropriate for you, you may not have a fun time since you will not be able to eat much. However, it is perfectly permissable to share in the experience of a Sephardi Seder as long as they are Kosher for Passover and as long as you eat according to your minhag.
